Short answer: a sketch with dimensions, photos of the site, a deadline, and whether you need a crane. Send those four things and you'll get a fast, accurate quote — usually back the same day.
1. A sketch or drawing with the dimensions
This is the only one that's non-negotiable. We need to know how big it is and how the bits join together. A sketch on the back of a fence palings invoice is fine. A PDF from your designer is fine. A DXF straight out of CAD is fine. An engineer's drawing is fine. We'll work from any of them.
What helps most: overall length, width and height, the section size if you've got a preference, and any critical joins or bolt holes called out. If you don't know the section size, just describe the job — we'll spec it.
2. Photos of the site, if it matters
If the fabricated piece has to bolt to an existing wall, a fence, a slab or another structure, photos save everyone time. They catch the things sketches miss — the wonky brickwork, the slope nobody mentioned, the tree that's in the way. A handful of phone pics is plenty.
3. Your deadline
Tell us when you need it. Most small fab jobs we can turn around in a few days to a week. Bigger structural work, or anything going off to the galvaniser, runs longer. If we can't hit your date we'll say so up front — better than disappointing you on the day.
4. Delivery and crane access
If the steel is long, heavy, or has to drop into an awkward spot — over a fence, into a backyard, onto a second-storey deck — let us know early. We've got our own crane truck and we'd rather book it in once with the fab job than scramble at the end.
Nice to have, but not essential
- A preferred finish (painted, DuraGal, hot-dip galvanised) — if you don't know, we'll recommend
- Engineering certificate, if your council needs one (we work with local engineers)
- Whether you'll install it yourself or want it installed
How to send it
Email it to sales@marshallsteel.com.au, drop it in at the yard (9 Stevenson Court, Burleigh Heads), or use the quote form on our Contact page. Most quotes come back the same day. Family-owned, family-run — when you ring, you'll get someone who knows the stock and the steel.
